Education
East Durham College is a vibrant and dynamic educational institution committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for its students.
The comprehensive planning and detailing of fire detection and alarm systems span across the entire college estate. The designs took into account the diverse learning needs of students and the presence of animals and livestock on the premises, ensuring that alarm devices were sensitive to these factors to prevent harm and distress.
The estate comprises various buildings with different purposes, such as livestock sheds, veterinary training facilities, conventional classrooms, agricultural machinery workshops, animal feed storage, and general-use buildings that support the college's overall function.
Collaboration with the in-house Fire Risk Assessor at East Durham College was a crucial part of the design process, ensuring that each building was appropriately categorised for the required level of automatic fire detection based on individual needs.
The detailed design output, including design drawings, schematics, zone diagrams, supported by engineering calculations and detector selection tables, was consolidated into a performance specification. This comprehensive documentation allows the client to tender for the installation with clarity and precision.
